CANDY GIRL 2011

Friday, September 30, 2011

This is probably only exciting news if a) you're a JPop fan, b) you're a fan of gal & gal fashion, or c) all of the above. I happen to be of the Option C group, so I'm incredibly stoked to announce the ultra-fabulous collaboration between JPop/electronica artist mini & one of my favourite gal brands (that I really need to blog more about) GYDA ( ´艸`)

First of all, if you haven't heard of mini you should definitely look her up. She debuted in March 2010 with the single Are U Ready? which got her some comparisons to Lady Gaga, but she quickly followed up with her second single GiRLS SPiRiT which solidified her as a gal artist in the vein of Kana Nishino & Sifow aka Shiho Fujita. You can even recognise a few gal models in the video for GiRLS SPiRiT too.

mini's latest single is CANDY GIRL 2011, a cover of the 1995 single of the same title by one of my personal favourite JPop artists, hitomi, & one of my own personal favourite songs. She is using the release of this single to introduce her collaboration with GYDA, which I'm sure is a plot to boost sales & one I'm almost positive is going to work haha ༼✷ɷ✷༽

mini recently posted some photos on her blog which I pulled to share~

All of the costumes & designs for the promotional video were made by GYDA. The tee is a special collaboration item that was designed by mini & new GYDA designer Akane Suda (おめでとうございます, Akane! ʕʘ̅͜ʘ̅ʔ❤), as well as the pink studded pumps mini wears in the video & promotional shots.

& just because everyone needs to hear the song & see the fabulous costume design, here is the preview of the video which should be releasing a full version sometime soon!

It's only natural I would follow up my leather bottoms obsession with a metallic one (see the Diesel Black Gold runway & tell me if you don't walk away a convert yourself.) There's just something so deliciously rock star-ish about lounging around in gold skinnies & a cami that may or may not be meant to be worn under a normal top.

from left to right: Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Soft Nude (wearing), Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Nude Lustre, Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Nearly There, Ameli Plat Lips in Nude Beige

I've always been a huge supporter of what I'd like to call the Chinatsu Wakatsuki nude lip. This is my current arsenal for when I feel like looking like a member of the walking dead, each with its own charms. Best in show is definitely Revlon's Colorburst Lipstick in Soft Nude which was sold out for weeks on end after it was first released last year & tends to sell out quickly still. A perfect dupe for MAC's Myth ❤

A quick summary on the runner-ups... The Super Lustrous Lipgloss is great for an everyday 'naked' lip, while the Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick is a darker, more 'natural' nude shade with a hint of metallic shimmer. The Ameli Plat Lips looks fabulous layered over the Super Lustrous Lipgloss for a pretty pinky nude, my favourite for going out. It's only sold at Vanity Box though, but you can try it for 5$ off by entering my giveaway here ༼✷ɷ✷༽

Galstar knit, used skinny trousers + Jeffrey Campbell wedges

Late to jump on the coloured trousers trend, but I finally found the perfect pair of ultra-bright skinnies at a secondhand shop. Rolled up at the hem for fun ♪

In other news, I am thoroughly enjoying my new job at the university ( ´艸`) Had the most chill first day of work ever yesterday that consisted of an hour of training that was mostly bad jokes & laughing politely, trekking around campus & eating lunch at a restaurant with amazing views of the entire quad. My new co-workers are equally awesome & I've found a new partner to go thrifting with.

Another bonus: my hours give me the freedom to keep up with blogging & other things crucial to me not losing my mind. I literally couldn't ask for more. Hopefully this is not some dream I'm going to wake up from!

NYLON Japan x Asian Girls Snap

Saturday, September 24, 2011

My absolute favourite part of Japanese fashion magazines is definitely the street snaps section. So naturally I had to share this feature in the September issue of NYLON Japan that shows snaps from 5 major Asian cities (Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Hong Kong & Taiwan) & breaks down the 3 central trends in each.

My personal favourites are Seoul & Hong Kong ♥ Korean ladies in general just seem to have such an effortless, cool sense of style~ I really do believe the mode-kei trend in Japanese fashion stems from Korean fashion. I think you can see it here especially in the breakdown of the central trends~ loose tops, monotone coordinate & black shoes, which are all still staples of traditional mode-kei. Hong Kong is definitely channeling major 'blogger style' & gotta love the Jeffrey Campbell shout-out ♥ Found tons of inspiration in this feature though~ I wish Western magazines would do this more/at all too!

F21 cut-out shoulder blouse, EXPRESS ponte leggings + Steve Madden wedges
Stila Eyeshadow Trio in Rocker

I really need to do more beauty posts because I get obsessed with certain products & always forget to share them. For example this Stila trio palette. I'm a huge fan of Stila eyeshadows because they're long-lasting, the colour payoff is amazing & they come in a variety of shades & textures that can be worn wet or dry. I actually bought this little palette last year & it was my go-to everyday shadow until I got the Color Wheel for Christmas.

I still find myself coming back to this trio in a pinch though~ I can use it for everything... liner, highlighter & lid. My absolute favourite is the gunmetal shade on the far right (obviously, haha) for something subtly striking & shimmery.

Yes, both of these are from Forever 21. I'm only half ashamed to admit that I have been shopping there way too much lately, but it's the obvious choice when faced with purchasing a pair of faux leather anything for 100$+ versus 15$ ꒰・ัε・ั ꒱۶~

Can You Keep a Secret?

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

American Gold Wild Horses top, Forever 21 lace-up leatherette shorts, Steve Madden Westii wedges (barely pictured)

Leather (particularly of the faux kind, haha) bottoms are having a moment in my closet. More on this later.

favourite sunnies, EXPRESS London sweater + Forever 21 dress

Simplistic Sunday dressing at its best. Layered the dress from this post under another last season staple... though honestly, do sweaters ever go out of style? ༼☁ɷ☁༽

Set on enjoying my last week as a relatively unproductive member of society to the fullest. Also contemplating how to keep the blog on life support when I get busy again.

FIG&VIPER

Sunday, September 18, 2011

FIG&VIPER is a new & upcoming brand produced by gal model 植野有砂/Arisa Ueno who most recently modeled for BLENDA. BLENDA, SCawaii, ViVi & the new magazine KATY have features of this brand in the October issues. I actually first discovered it when fellow model Akane Suda posted about it back in August & have been meaning to talk about it since then.

The concept for the debut collection is GREEDY GIRL. It's a little bit GYDA, a little bit EGOIST, kind of SLY & very blogger & on-trend. Here are some photos from the lookbook~

Initial favourites include the oversized double-breasted plaid blazer, sheer asymmetrical top, the maxi cocoon cardigan & the long graphic tee in the left-hand photo of the second-to-last row. You can definitely see a major 'blogger style' influence in this collection, & if that weren't enough, Alisa has also created a Blogger blog for FIG&VIPER here. I find it interesting & pretty cool that she would choose to host her brand's main information blog on Blogger instead of Ameblo~ to me it definitely shows who her target audience is, since most popular fashion bloggers either got their start on or still maintain Blogger blogs ❤

I'm interested to see how this brand fares against mainstays with a similar style... Any thoughts so far?
